a poem | the ant attends a birthday party
the ant attends a birthday party
by me
near the woods there
are no words left to say
ants have lapped
them up carrying
leftovers in their feeble
navy blue almost black arms
off to their colony for the next
generation of ants to feed on
to raise their young on
so they too
can attend their
grandfather’s birthday
gathering on a stuffy
august weekend crumbs
of pineapple upside-down
cake that their
mother made
sticking to
their fingers
trying their best
to lick it off
all while watching a young
girl sit awkwardly
next to her grandfather.
p.s.: i'll be trying to post blog posts soon :) enjoy the poem.
