i went on a first date
and it wasn't terrible. i found him attractive, funny, smart, kind. his hair was long for a guy - about shoulder length, and he was shorter than me. about 5'5. i'm 6'1, for reference. he told me he didn't mind.
we went to this cute - but expensive - restaurant downtown. it was wayyy out of our budget for two struggling 19 year old college students (although he offered to pay for both of us at the end - more on that later), he got some sort of burger and i got a grilled cheese sandwich - which was served almost like a baguette. i feel way out of my tax bracket, i joked, somewhat half-kidding. he laughed. he has a nice laugh, it reminds me of an old friends laugh, and i could feel myself loosening up, relaxing my shoulders, slouching a bit. my foot stopped rhythmically tapping, too.
we talked about a lot - our families, our transitions, school, work, music. i mentioned briefly i like writing, but i didn't go into much about what i wrote. i think it's a bit uncouth to talk about yourself so much on a first date (but how else do you get to know someone?) so i asked more about him. he didn't really talk much, which was okay - and he didn't really ask me a lot of questions, but he responded thoughtfully to each one of my questions. he also offered to pay when the time came - of course, i offered to pay for myself (i feel bad making people pay for me) but he insisted. we departed, going our separate ways, he told me he had fun.
i did too.
later that day, my friend izzy, a semi-goth lesbian who's really into five nights at freddies and i hung out at the better salvation army a town over. i recounted the date to her, telling her i really liked him and would be willing to go on a second date with him, if he wanted to. we had fun, i said, slurping on a red-cherry slurpee in her car, i struggled with eye contact - but - i think everyone does, nowadays. i think he had fun too.
izzy asked me some questions about him - and i showed her a picture of him (which, i'll admit, wasn't the best picture of him. i thought it was cute, though), and then our conversation sidetracked into the sims 4 and rory oaklowe.
anyways - i think the date went good. he mentioned he works at one of the malls near me, a city or two over. i hope i can see him again soon.
